Parachuting Instructor Dies After Plummeting Lacking Safety Gear in Nashville
Federal aviation authorities is investigating the death of a parachuting trainer following he got detached from his client during a dive in Nashville, Tennessee.
Authorities report trainer Justin Fuller "is presumed to have dropped from the air without a safety chute" during the jump on the weekend.
The instructor, 35 years old, seems to have detached from his student and a dual harness, which connects the pair during a dive and includes the parachute.
A law enforcement aircraft found Fuller's body in a forested zone some time after. Local emergency crews utilized several ladders to access the 46-year old student who lived through the descent after being stuck on a tree branch for some time with the emergency parachute.
Police stated three other dives, which took place near a local airport, were successfully completed before the fatal fall. Aircraft from which they jumped also touched down without issue.
The cause remains unknown how the instructor, an experienced skydiver, became separated from the safety equipment.
A individual who helped rescue teams in the operation informed a media outlet the client who officials rescued mentioned "he was a first-time jumper, and it was going to be his final one".
Mr Fuller had previously posted about his enthusiasm for teaching others how to parachute.
"Instructing individuals to parachute has consistently been in my opinion the most satisfying job at the drop zone," the instructor said in an Instagram post in the summer.
"Watching them figure it out and begin maneuvering their bodies is consistently a heartwarming moment. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you let someone go for their initial attempt."
That same month he shared images of the damage a skydiving plane he was on noting the aircraft's motor had failed after take off. All 20 people aboard survived.
